The Backwash

If you won't drink it, then read it.

Nostalgic, yet funny!

Ahhhh…..some of my favorite things! It’s old, but I had forgotten about it until tonight. Enjoy!

Of Movies and Backflow Valves

I am growing to like the summer months more in my mid-life age. I have decided to allow myself to go see first-run movies in a very self-serving way. I go with a couple of friends, usually the first weekend they are out, and have the required “man-seat” between us. Here are a few we have seen so far, with my totally non-movie-critic self thoughts:

-Star Trek: This year’s “Dark Knight.” To think that J.J. Abrams is my age is beyond me. Talk about someone having an inside track that I never had a chance at getting! Whether you watched any of the trek series or not, this one is worth your time. If you watched them, you will like it. If you didn’t, you will be able to keep-up. See it in IMAX if you can…it’s worth the 14,000 watt sound blaring in your ears.

-X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Worth your time, but don’t expect an “A.” This one is more of a “B.” Good show for a movie night, though.

-Monsters Vs. Aliens (3D): GREAT movie. Not a huge fan of the 3D craze, though. Although it is better now than back in the 70’s and 80’s, I am perfectly happy with a 2D version.

-The Soloist: Never has a movie I had such high hopes for disappointed in so many ways. This one could have been great but left me feeling like I got my cheeseburger and it didn’t have the cheese.

-State of Play: Good movie. Definitely a “B” or higher. Keep up or you will lose track of what is going on.

On another note….I have learned my lesson with my backflow valve. I had a sprinkler system installed last year, and since it is new to me, I said “yes” to the guy who installed it when he asked if I wanted him to winterize my system. Well, I’ll never make that mistake again. I mean, honestly, it’s Arkansas and the thing has two connections. A twist of the water meter, and a turn of two nuts and viola….winterized. Well, since this lame dude did not arrive to winterize the system until AFTER a hard freeze, the backflow valve was damaged beyond repair. $200 later for a new valve and I have learned my lesson. It only takes once, but hey…I can ultimately be taught!

So many words, so little time

I have been conspicuously absent of new content here for a while. Much going on. My hope is to generate more diatribe in the next week or so. I know you all sit with baited breath for new posts, but alas, they all still reside in my head at this point. More soon!
